An Unlocked Mind (Secrets Book 2) (English Edition) Reviews
I have read every book from the Collars & Cuffs series and was sad when I finished the last one. I am beyond thrilled for Secrets! So many new possiblities, stories and couples to follow. The first book of the series was already great and this one is equal if not better! I love Vic and Rob and can not wait for the next one!! I really hope it is about Sam and Aaron as I like the 2 Doms- 1 Sub stories!! "Hint-Hint" to K.C. Wells :-) :-)
This has got to be my favorite in of the Secrets and Collars & Cuffs series. I always enjoy reading about a character that no one likes, such as Rob, who evolves so well through the book. I remember reading about Rob, who is the brother of Alex from Collars & Cuffs, and wanting to know more about him. Although he is a jerk there are reasons from his past that have made him the way he is and all he really needs is someone to believe and love him. Which brings me to Vic, he is the perfect Dom and man for Rob. Vic is able to tear done the walls that Rob has built around himself and encouraged Rob to be a better version of himself. This is a must recommend read, it is not necessary to read previous books in the series but I would say that there would be a better understanding of the characters if you did. This is far my favorite BDSM series, a definite must read if you are a fan of this genre.
When I read Rob in the Collars and Cuffs series, I didn't think he'd be able to be redeemed.I was wrong. In this story, we get to know him, and though he starts out to be what we've known and expected, little by little, he changes. That's all due to the wonderful, tough love of Vic.Vic not not only challenges Rob, he makes him see that there are parts of him waiting to be awakened. Parts that are inherently good and positive.I would strongly suggest Book 1 of Collars and Cuffs be read prior to reading this story, a story I truly adored. I loved the slow building relationship and how it developed between Rob and Vic, and how Rob came to realise the man he truly was. I enjoyed seeing some of the characters from other books make an appearance, and can't wait to see what these two wonderfully talented authors come up with next.
I love that this is Alex's brother. I really liked getting his side of the story and why he did what he did. I love that, while he is trying to find forgiveness, he doesn't cut back on the snark and sass. He is a great character that truly is trying to better himself while forgiving the boy he was.I wish that each chapter, that came after a few months or so, spoil have a little note about how much time had passed. I'm really not sure how long the span of time was for this story. I don't want to go back and count. I still really enjoyed this book.I'm sad since I'm finally caught up with the series and now I have to wait. I can't wait for the next book.
I think I'm ambivalent about this one. As other reviewers said, it was very wordy. There wasn't much dialogue. To me it just seemed to take forever to get where it was going and then when it did... It lacked something.. Spark? I don't know. I felt that the story was jumpy and lacked oomph and cohesiveness. I'm having a hard time articulating my thoughts. I liked how Rob wanted to become a better person & brother and I liked Vic, who if I wasn't told he was a dominant I would never have known by his personality. It just seemed like it was one big 'one step forward and Four steps back' story.I'm glad I read it, I had to go back and read Leo and Alex's story first (definitely recommend that one) I guess it just didn't speak to me like so many of the other books. Give it a try though. I liked the first Secrets (Wayne and Ellis) book and I do look forward to more.
My absolute favorite book in this Universe that started in the Collars & Cuffs series is Trusting Thomas, and that hasn't changed--but I can say with resounding and joyous certainty that An Unlocked Mind in the spin-off series Secrets is a profound and perfect runner-up to the top position as favorite. <3 I loved it. Absolutely loved it. Rob and Vic's journey together was marvelous. I cried, winced, raged, and smiled. The empathy and the judgment-free aspect that I loved so much in Trusting Thomas was built upon and expanded in An Unlocked Mind.
